References and sources

A reliable source must be able to support the requested information. All quotations and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged must include an inline citation of a source that directly supports the material.

Many 78 rpm records contain insufficient information about the music author or the performer. They are reduced to the last name of the performer, conductor and/or author. To determine the copyright status, the full name and the biographical data of the performer(s), composer(s), lyricist(s), conductor and the music arranger is required. In addition, the 1st release date, the 1st recording date and the place of the music venue are important. A good source of classical recordings is the AHRC Research Centre for the History and Analysis of Recorded Music. Please be sure to check out in Wikipedia if the name of the work is correctly written on the record. Example: Symphony No. 5 in C minor of Ludwig van Beethoven. Wikipedia shortens the name of their articles to Symphony No. 5 (Beethoven). To satisfy musicological needs, we write the full work name and link it to the Wikipedia article if exist.

Example:

[[Wikipedia:Symphony No. 5 (Beethoven)|Symphony No. 5 in C minor (Beethoven)]]
.

If you found all the required information on the same source, please note the reference inside the new article and include the reference tag.

Examples:

<ref name="reldate">[http://www.charm.rhul.ac.uk/index.html CHARM]: ''3&4 Jan 1945 - Kingsway Hall -
National Symphony Orchestra, Malcolm Sargent - BEETHOVEN Symphony No.5 in C minor Op.67 - AR8990-97'',
[http://images.cch.kcl.ac.uk/charm/liv/pubs/DeccaComplete.pdf Link] to the record</ref>

The best method is to check an existing article for the correct spelling and use as a template to write a new article.
